(Charleston, IL) — 杏吧原创(EIU), in partnership with several internal and community organizations, offers the following list of events the week of October 20, 2025 for students, employees, and the public. From birdwatching and bowling to athletics and academics, EIU offers something to assist all participants in enjoying, learning, or supporting EIU and the community.
Tuesday, October 21, 2025
- Governor Edward Coles County Marker and Portrait Dedication
3:30 p.m.; Coles County Courthouse, East Lawn & Rotunda, Charleston, IL
Free and open to the public
Dedication ceremony for a historical marker and portrait honoring the second State Governor of Illinois Edward Coles. The event begins on the east side of the Coles County Courthouse lawn for the marker unveiling, followed by the portrait unveiling in the rotunda. (In case of rain, ceremony will be indoors.) Sponsored by the Charleston CAN History and Tourism Committee, Charleston Tourism Office, and others through the Untold Stories Grant.
- New Moon Yoga
5 to 6 p.m.; the Tarble, 2010 9th Street, Charleston, IL
Free and open to the public
Gentle yoga session inspired by the new moon, exploring themes of renewal and new beginnings. All experience levels welcome. Bring your own mat.

- Whiteside Garden Fall Foliage Walk

Torchlit hike, music, storytelling, and bonfires. Cider, hotdogs, and s’mores for sale to support programming. Kid-friendly “spooky” stories and costumed actors along the trail.

- AFSCME Local 981 Annual Winter Clothing Drive
Donate new and gently used gloves, mittens, hats, scarves, earmuffs, socks, coats, sweaters, pajamas, and warm clothing for all ages. Donations will directly benefit the EIU Food Pantry and other community resource centers.

- Period Product Drive
Join the Health Education Resource Center in partnership with The Pad Project in collecting menstrual products in support of the EIU Food Pantry. Though all products are accepted, specific needs include tampons, pads, and liners. Join the kickoff presentation on October 21 at 4 p.m. in Taylor Hall where EIU representatives will be delivering an "At your Cervix" presentation and collecting products. All housing locations will be collecting along with the Health Education Resource Center (Room 2201 Blair Hall). More information at
